The name is most likely a garbled or local rendering of another cultivar - plausible candidates are Belle de Boskoop (Netherlands 1856, triploid, high-acid, rated as a single-varietal cider apple) or one of the French Belle varieties such as Belle de Tours, Belle Fille Normande or Belle Fille de la Manche.
